The overarching purpose of this handbook developed by Friends of the Winooski River is to help Vermont’s stressed stream and river systems recover more quickly by engaging communities in improving the health of Vermont’s rivers. To this end the handbook is designed to encourage people and agencies to change their relationship with streams so that responses to conflicts are most conducive to river health, human enjoyment, and property protection; provide community members with information about how streams work; and highlight incentive programs available to landowners.
