| Dear
Friend of Lake Champlain, |
Fall is quieter on the Lake, but not here at the LCBP. In addition to the activities below, we recently embarked on new project to identify critical sources of nutrient runoff in the Missisquoi Basin. This program, funded by an appropriation Senator Leahy obtained for the International Joint Commission, will provide key information to our partners' by identifying the most effective on-the-ground efforts to reduce runoff to the Bay. And thanks to your local grant applications (see article), we will have many terrific new projects underway early next year. We will report more on all these efforts early in 2009-stay tuned!
Sincerely,
Bill Howland, LCBP Program Manager

| LCBP Grant Update |
|
Thank you to all the organizations who applied for grants this Fall. We had a tremendous response and received many strong applications for all the categories that were announced in August and due on October 3rd. We are happy to report that our US EPA and National Park Service funds, which we extend to local groups via our grants program have been received, making us available to award grants.
The LCBP staff is currently organizing the review teams that will rank the applications in October and November. These teams are all volunteer and are confidential. Once the decisions are made and approved, we will notify award recipients as soon as possible.
We expect to notify recipients for the Champlain Valley NHP and "Quad" grants by December. The other grants (Education, Pollution Prevention or Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Prevention, and Organizational Support) will be notified by January.
Thank you again for your applications.
